Are you looking for an easy and simple satisfying snack for after school or work?

The humble banana blended with peanut butter is the answer.

Made with familiar ingredients and could easily be turned vegan.

With only four ingredients, this smoothie is a simple one to make.

Does your child or kids ask for snack after school?

Mine complains that she is starving every time I pick her up.

We live miles away from the school so I pack a snack bag before schoolruns.

Most mothers I talk to try to give satisfying afterschool nibbles but not big enough that those little tummies do not have room for supper anymore.

I run out of snack ideas sometimes.

Guilty here of giving a cookie or two from my bag.

Most days I hand my daughter a cracker, small slice of cheese, a small fruit or seaweed.

She would finish her snack and we would chat all the way home.

There are times when she would make it home and whip up something like peanut butter and banana smoothie.

We share it together as she makes a big glass all the time.

Ingredients

For a full list of ingredients jump to recipe.

  1. Frozen sliced medium banana
  2. Peanut butter
  3. Oat milk
  4. Honey
  5. Ice cubes if using fresh banana

Variations and substitutions

Little lady makes variations of this smoothie too!

Anything we have in the freezer like berries added with the banana and a little milk is also a hit.

At times there is a colour theme – red, blue, brown you name it.

Some days chocolate or cocoa powder is added for a chocolatey smoothie.

Peanut butter is easily replaced by almond butter.

If out of honey, peanut butter and banana are enough for sweetness.

Maple syrup is great in place of honey if you are vegan.

Fresh banana could also be used instead of frozen but we add ice cubes to the blend.

Do you have space for a peanut butter and banana smoothie now?

Let’s make it together.

How to make peanut butter smoothie

Freeze a sliced medium sized banana the night before or if you are food prepping the banana will already be in the freezer.

Take out the frozen banana.

Measure the a tablespoon and a half of peanut butter.

Smooth or if you prefer it with a crunch take out the pot crunchy peanut butter.

For us it depends which kind of peanut butter pot is open.

Spoon a tablespoon of honey.

Take two thirds of a cup of milk. We use plant-based milk otherwise pour dairy milk in.

Put all the ingredients in a blender.

If using an immersion blender, put all the ingredients in a large jug.

Whizz until you have a smooth mixture or well blended.

And the smoothie done!

Pour the peanut butter and banana smoothie in a glass.

Slurp quitely if you can.

Enjoy!
